How Can I Fix My Ironing Press?

When I turned it on there was smoke and thereafter it did not work.

It may be that the heating element burned up, in which case you will probably have to buy a new ironing press. However, if you are lucky, it may just be that the connection between the power cord and the inside wiring came loose, causing a high resistance spot that heated up. If this is what happened, you may be able to make a repair using a crimp connector of the sort found in an automotive supply store. If you have an ohmmeter, or know someone with an ohmmeter, it is fairly easy to make a diagnosis. Perhaps your auto mechanic would do it as a favor.
