What can you iron on if you do not have an ironing board?

I only have an iron and not an actual board and need to iron a dress shirt. Is there anything else you can use an iron on with your clothes besides an ironing board?

I used to use a full size terry cloth towel on the kitchen floor or on the counter
I just iron my clothes on the bed. It is way too much work to get the ironing board out of the closet. Put a towel down on the counter or some other hard surface before ironing. Perhaps this goes without saying, but don’t iron on carpet–you may burn it.
Yes, you can iron on top of a towel spread out on the floor. Just don’t leave the iron on it too long.
The towel on the floor wins. I have a special board for quilting that is half cutting mat and half ironing surface; they are very expensive however; but look for them when you’re at a craft store sometime that sells quilting supplies. Ironing boards aren’t cheap either so why not give it a shot?
I used my study table, i put some cloth first so as not to ruin my table.
A wooden board, the kitchen counter, your dining room table. Just be careful not to scorch the table or counter top. You can spread a cloth under the shirt, but that will make it more inclined to bunch up and wrinkle.
